Those three forms combined to define 8 types of loves which is liking (intimacy , infatuated love (passion empty love (commitment , romantic love (intimacy , passion , Companionate love (intimacy , Fatuous love (passion , commitment ) and Consummate love .Consummate love is the only type of love that includes all three components-intimacy , passion and commitment . Consummate love is the most complete form of love , and it represents the ideal love relationship for which many people strive

Sternberg (1986 ) developed a triangular theory of love . According to this theory , love consists of three components : intimacy , passion , and decision /commitment . Sternberg (p . 120 ) defined them as follows

The intimacy component refers to feelings of closeness , connectedness and bondedness in loving relationships . The passionate component refers to the drives that lead to romance , physical attraction , sexual consummation , and related phenomena in loving relationships . The decision-commitment component refers to , in the short term , the decision that one loves someone else , and in the long term , the commitment to maintain that love
