king who became distracted and disheartened by his rule and the loss of his friend , Enkidu . Gilgamesh is , no doubt , a great hero . He had suffered so much and after all his sufferings , he achieved what he wanted and shared what he had learned during his quests . He was transformed from being a self-serving king to a kind-hearted one who considers the importance of his people . He had reached this goal after he had returned from his quest . Although his `immortality ' was judged by Enlil to not have an everlasting life , Gilgamesh had achieved a symbolic immortality that generations after him could admire
2 . answer in two paragraphs the following questions : 1 ) What is the importance of the plant about which Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh ? and 2 ) Does Gilgamesh attain it
The plant which Utnapishtim told Gilgamesh is a symbol of his life - that his hands will be wounded but will restore his lost youth . It means that Gilgamesh will have to suffer first in to fully mature in spirit to be able to rule his people the best he can . As stated in the text , Gilgamesh searched for immortality after Enkidu 's death and suffered loss of vitality yet after he was enlightened , he returned much wiser and more emotionally and psychologically mature . Did he attain the plant ? Yes he did
