8 Tone Matter-of-factly . Sammy narrates the story in his own voice opinions , and judgements . It is somewhat comic , but this can be understandable considering the age of the narrator
9 Style Foreshadowing . In the middle of the story , it is revealed that the story that Sammy has been narrating has already happened and he is merely re-telling it
10 Irony The ending of the story . When Sammy stands up for the three girls , he feels all heroic and gives up a very important job . The irony is that the girls do not even know that he has done it , making his decision all the more pathetic
