An organization cannot function effectively without a leader to direct its goals . In performing the functions of an organizational leader , the administrator must take into consideration not only the administrative structures of the organization , but also the behavior of people . A leader takes his place before a group as he organizes its activities into effective means of attaining planned goals . He combines the use of his ability with that of his people in making decisions about plans and their implementation which will stand up when reviewed by others . He uses his influence and persuasive or his people to accept and follow those decisions . He does his leadership functions within the culture of the organization , such as the deeply-ingrained values
Since leadership is defined as the ability to influence the behavior of other people , a leader is not only sufficient equipped with the leader 's know-how but he is also genuinely interested in the development of people . While he is capable of changing the behavior or attitudes of people , he should not seek the change simply to dominate them for personal interest but for them to develop their capability in solving organizational problems
In any organization , no matter how small it is , there must be a leader His leadership commands respect and obedience to insure attainment of goals

A good staff with good individuals but poor leadership in the principal 's office will lack focus . The staff can achieve much more than the sum of its parts if the collective effort is focused by a strong dynamic leadership at the top . A strong principal like a good coach makes everyone better . A good school starts at the top . The best way to have quality education is to have a strong effective principal
The leader keeps his eyes on high goals . He strives to make the efforts of his followers and himself contribute to the enrichment of personality , the achievement of more abundant living for all and the improvement of civilization
