Leadership is a concept that has been analyzed most extensively by research theorists . The concept has been a central concern of social and political theory since time immemorial . The presence of leadership has been identified in almost every walk of life , and affects the way things are done . Hence researchers find it a very interesting concept to study and analyze . Leadership is not just a work , but has many different facets to it . Many researchers even claim that each situation demands a different type of leadership to tackle it most effectively

Leadership has become a hot with a burgeoning but fragmented literature over the past few years that draws on both arts and sciences however , so far there are no agreed paradigm for the study and practice of leadership . This presents an analysis of the theory and research of leadership and traces its development over the years

The purpose of this is to analyze the different theories of leadership and the parameters that are used to analyze the quality of leader and leadership . There have been several attempts for creating a general theory of leadership , but the concept seemed too vast to come under a single framework . Many researchers feel that leadership is situation dependent , and that one kind of situation needs a particular type of leadership which may not be suitable for another situation . The changes in situation can be due to location , situational characteristics , severity , required response time , or characteristics of people involved in the situation such as their age , demographics spread , educational levels etc . An attempt is made in this to come up with a common framework for leadership that can be applied to all the different situations
