any given culture is rather a painful process which can make or break any organization depending on the change model selected and the commitment the leadership offers towards this end There are various change models that can be implemented each having its own strengths and benefits . The models to be discussed here are
Lewin model
In this model developed by Kurt Lewin considers that in any given set up change is always inevitable . Yet the change is always resisted in one way or the other , thus the change process should be systematically implemented to achieve the desirable results (Lewin , Kurt (1951 Lewin believes that the process should not be implemented abruptly rather a 3 stage process should be put in place to manage change . The 3 stage process involves
Unfreezing
Changing
Refreezing
Unfreezing
Here the status quo is identified and pain is to it thus creating some form of dissatisfaction with it . This helps for the people involved to realize the importance of change . Here also driving and resisting forces are identified which are then guided towards change
Changing
This is the second stage in this process and here resources are mobilized to bring the change . Strategies are formulated to enable the changes to take place effectively . Everyone is properly educated on what is supposed to be done and given time to practice the new change
Refreezing
After change has been realized the question now is how to sustain the change so that it doesn 't revert to its original form . Here the new ways are embedded within the organization so that there is permanence of the change
Advantages of this model
This model is very suitable specifically when it 's given proper time duration and there 's proper leadership . Humans are always resistant to any changes especially when they are abrupt (Chartered Institute Of Personnel and Development (2005
This model advocates for a slow and simple step by step process . This model therefore can greatly contain any resistance thereof . The model is also very simple to follow
Disadvantages
In most cases organizations are unable to follow strictly all the 3 phases thereby jeopardizing the whole process . Also it 's easy to undergo the freezing and change process but to sustain this through the refreezing step might be a bit tricky especially if the management relaxes in its commitment level
