Introduction

There are many view points as to how leaders are made and organizations are to be managed . In the context of diverse opinions on leadership , it is commonly said that leaders are made , not born . If a person has the desire and willpower , he can become a good and active leader and develop his /her own leadership styles . The leadership skill is developed through a continuous

process of self-study , education , experience and training Leadership is an art by which a person (leader ) influences others (followers ) to direct their will , abilities and efforts (Agarwal , 1983 In other words , it can be interpreted as a quality of an individual by which he guides the people in performing their activities in an organized manner towards the achievement of a goal . This quality may vary from person to person and consequently the leadership styles may also be somewhat subjective . Many leadership models have been evolved and prescribed for certain specific situations by various authorities

The leadership style means the manner in which the leader instructs or motivates the subordinates in implementing a particular task . In fact there are as many leadership styles as there are leaders .
