The legalization of illicit drugs has been one of the longest standing debates within U .S . law with both supporters and opponents armed with very detailed and well-researched arguments to advance their cause Presently , those who are against legalization have the law behind them while those proposing legalization are gaining support from civic groups , authorities and even lawmakers . Gorman (2006 ) presented the issue from the point of view of those pushing for illegal drugs to be legalized . Filled with numerous first hand witness accounts , this report is a compilation of experiences and opinions from the standpoint of a few military men and law-enforcement staff who have taken their stand for legalization . All testimonials and personal accounts include the subject 's name , required background and history . There is a constant change of point of view as the paper progresses , but it managed to present the viewpoints of the interviewees in a conversational , laid back and easy to understand manner
