PERSONAL STATEMENT

Growing up in the inner-city projects and being raised by a single parent on welfare was a continuous struggle for me and my siblings Unfortunately , I witnessed my mother 's experiences of being in numerous abusive relationships . I even witnessed my peers fell into drugs and crime one-by-one . We had little money back then , and we constantly moved from one relative 's house to another . All in all , I ended up attending five different elementary schools and three different middle schools during my primary and secondary years

As I

looked back today , I am still amazed that I did not become a statistics graduate like most of my childhood friends . I never became a casualty to the court system nor did I involve myself to the drugs and alcohol that plagued our community . I think that the reason for this was my decision to enter military when I was in my 11th grade in high school

I joined the military under the Army 's Delayed Entry Program . My eagerness to separate myself from the crowd , to mature , and to make a better life pushed me to enter military . Three days after my high school graduation , I stepped onto a bus headed for basic training . I was determined not to be a part of the vicious cycle I once knew

After 3 years of my service in the Army located in Germany , I suffered an injury that caused me to leave the military early . I was very disappointed because...
