Latin American music usually involves the musical traditions from countries like Mexico , Central America , South America , and the Caribbean ( Latin American Music . The unique musical style of Latin American is brought about by the diverse cultural influences and the heritage of those people from Native America , some parts of Europe and Africa ( Latin American Music

Influence of Native America

Of all the cultures with the least observable influence in the Latin American music are the Native Americans because

of their colonial experience where much of their traditions and musical culture were destroyed

The musical heritage from the Native Americans basically came from the tribes of the pre-contact era including the Aztecs , Incans and Mayans Their musical style , as accounted by some Spanish choniclers includes the use of instruments such as percussions and winds . They usually utilize vertical flutes and panpipes as parts of their everyday living from hunting , fishing , working , entertaining , lamenting and doing their rituals ( Latin American Music and Dance . The Love Flute , which is the common name given by Native Americans to their ducted flute , was popularly used for courtship by eager suitors as they capture the heart of the coy maiden ( Native Americans . Influence of Europe

The manifestation of the European tradition in the Latin American region is perceivable until now especially with the musical instrument that the former introduced . People from the Iberian Peninsula or Europe 's extreme southwestern region which includes countries like Spain , Portugal ,Andorra and Gibraltar , basically swayed Latin Americans into adopting their musical tradition

Some of the musical instruments introduced by these Europeans are the following : bass drums , harps , fiddles ,and guitars of different sizes Most of the groups in Latin America decided to utilize these unique instruments in their local musical style ( Latin American . For instance , the Tzotzil of Mexico plays the violin , harp and guitar while integrating their own style of harmonizing its music . Aside from using instruments , Latin American musical genres were also influenced by European 's music . Some of it includes : joropo of Venezuela , the desafio of Brazil , seis of Puerto Rico , cueca of Chile and Bolivia , sones and corrido of Mexico ,and punto of Cuba ( Latin American Music and Dance

Influence of Africa

The Africans basically existed in Latin America under the region 's slavery system . Africa has a very rich culture , and because of this they were able to influence the people of the region in terms of their musical style . Their features basically include polyrhythms , call and response singing , and an extensive utilization of musical figures ( Latin American Music and Dance . Their instruments usually involve percussions especially the drums of different variations , gongs , rattles or maracas , and the marimbula or thumb piano
