Protests , strikes and negative sentiments against the government would see the republican go through an easy win with William McKinley taking over the mantle as the president of the United States . Upon the entry of McKinley , the economy of the United States took a recovery turn mostly as a result of the confidence that the public had on the new leadership . The road to recovery was not smooth The nation had to undergo major social , political and economic reforms The government powers and structures had to be under intense structuring and policy redefinition to ensure that the economy went back on track finally culminating the economic prosperity evidenced in the 1940s
