Fetal movement is one of the indicators that are used to assess the progress of fetal growth in the womb . Fetal movements have been associated with the health status of the fetus and lack of fetal movements in the womb has been associated with fetal death . There is a very high level

of awareness of fetal movement in pregnant women and they have highly linked fetal movement with outcome of the pregnancy While most mothers are aware of the fetal activity in the womb , there are different interpretations they give to this movement while a number of them don 't even understand the important of monitoring the fetal activities . This study was carried out with the knowledge that most mothers and even health care providers had little knowledge of the important of fetal movement in the womb . Therefore it was meant to cover a gap in research concerning the awareness of the mother about fetal movement and the outcomes of the pregnancy . The aim of this study was to identify the association between the information that is given to pregnant women on fetal movement in the womb , the level of maternal awareness of the fetal movement , maternal concerns about reduced level of fetal movement and the outcomes of the pregnancy (Saastad , et al 2008

The study was a population based cross-sectional study . This was carried out from fourteen hospitals in Eastern Norway and Bergen . This involved 3 university clinics and 11 delivery units which represented both rural and urban districts . The study population was mothers with singleton delivery who were invited to answer anonymous structured questionnaire before they were discharged from the delivery unit . The sample size was 691 women which was 60 .4 of all the eligible women . A questionnaire which had statement assessing mother 's answer through a Likert scale was used for data collection . The awareness of the mother about fetal movement was measured by a self-reported maternal assessment of degree to which the mother was aware of the fetal activity

The outcome of the pregnancy was assessed in small for gestation age (SGA ) which was considered as a marker for any fetal compromise Covariates factors like maternal age , education statues , body mass index , and habits like smoking were also considered as they could affect the reception and interpretation of information . The collected data was statistically analyzed using SPSS version 14 .0 .1 within a crude and adjusted ration within 95 confidence interval . Statistical significant was set at 0 .05 . For the whole of data collection period , there were 1325 births which were recorded .
