Running Head Kindergarten : Making 1 :1 Time in Half a Day Education Theories 12 /19 /2009 Abstract One of the main problems in educating students at the kindergarten level lies in giving each child the individual attention they need from the teacher when one has a large classroom and limited time available for each student . Studies have shown that students benefit from 1 :1 time with their teacher however due to the half day classroom schedule of many kindergartens , finding the time to help each student is often difficult

. This will explore possible methods for providing each child with the 1 :1 attention they need within the context of the authors own teaching experience at the kindergarten level
Introduction
Individual attention from teachers is critical at the kindergarten level for several reasons . First , students at this age are often making their first transition from home to school . This means they may be scared , upset , and may not know what to expect upon arriving in the kindergarten classroom . Second , 1 :1 attention is often needed in to prevent conflict and disciplinary problems from disrupting the classroom . The problem lies in providing each student with the individual attention they need , within the limitations of a half day classroom schedule
Teachers are responsible for providing reinforcement for positive social interactions and behaviors , and well as assisting children who may have Special Needs . This individual attention from teachers is even more critical in the post No Child Left behind Act...
