He concluded that all objects that the mind can imagine about must match to its method of idea . Thus if the mind can think only in conditions of causality - which he concluded that it can - then we can recognize prior to experiencing them that all objects we experience must also be a basis or a consequence . On the other hand , it goes after from this that it is probable that there are objects of such a character that the mind can not think of them , and so the law of causality , for example , cannot be functional remote of experience : therefore we cannot know , for instance whether the world at all times existed or if it had a cause .
