Juvenile Probation Officer

The job of a Juvenile Probation Officer contains many types of jobs and responsibilities that are necessary in the role of deterring many youth from a life of crime . A juvenile probation officer has the following duties

Build family support and unity through family therapy and mediation When there is a displacement between a youth and a family member , that broken bond needs repair and maintenance

Eliminate negative social

influences by developing positive social relationships and providing mentorship for youth . Build new social foundations and expand upon positive existing friendships by including peers that are positive influences into therapy

Redirect negative behavior into positive activities that are recreational as well as academic and corrective . Provide youths with artistic and critical thinking activities that will serve as an outlet for their anxieties

Provide graduated sanction such as community service , restitution and labor intensive work that is parallel with psychological treatment . Any punishment or correctional activity that is given should be sensitive to each youth regarding age , sex , social economic status , and race

Juvenile Probation Officers are the last line of defense and intervention before a youth placement into a correctional facility . The Probation Officers is an officer of the juvenile court who counsels and creates rehabilitation plans for youth . After a youths is conviction of an offense , a judge may see fit to have the youth released into the custody of his /her parents and probation officer . The probation officer then arranges counseling programs , community outreach groups , career training , scholastic improvement , and various other community programs that will help to improve the youth 's behavior and lifestyle in society Any restitution plans or community service work are all arranged for by the probation officer in conjunction with court s . Probation officers may also place youths in substance abuse treatment programs Juvenile officers try to keep youths from becoming recidivists in their crimes by providing constant care and supervision of their actions Probation programs are a tertiary intervention programs that are used to provide intervention in youthful offenders lives that will deter them from becoming career criminals

Probation officers spend much of their time court on the behalf of youthful offenders . The officer may have to testify for or against a youth based on the youth record of accomplishment during their probationary period . Probation officers have the tough responsibility of either recommending to a juvenile court judge or master jail time for youth or having them released back into society to adhere to a treatment program . Officers will conduct background research in to the families peers , school records , and medical histories on their assigned youthful offenders to determine which forms of treatment would be beneficial for the youth 's rehabilitation . After a youths is release from jail , the probation officer will have a meeting with the youth and his parents in which a six-month contract will be drawn up stating that the youth...
