The involvement of the law enforcement in averting juvenile delinquency is not a new occurrence , since for most of the past century the police have been associated with youthful offenders in several countries , and in diverse ways . For the most part , the role was limited to collecting malingerers , bullies , or prevention of school fights and child mistreatments . However , starting in 1960s there have been regular changes in the aforesaid police functions , following the 1990s

development of a range of much more imposing and closer associations between local police and communities . In the United States , for example the delivery of more comprehensive juvenile delinquency prevention programs , the spreading out of committed police officers as community resource officials , or implementation of zero tolerance guidelines , have entirely brought the law enforcement much closer to the everyday administration of juvenile delinquents

Basically in aiming to curtail crime in addition to preserving the law and , I believe that police officers must be provided with significant discretion over truant , disly , and delinquent juveniles . Aside from bringing the juveniles together to court , police must as well impose a variety of informal sanctions , such as referrals detention , return of embezzled property , intimidation and warning (The Free Library , 2007 .
