Introduction

The New Testament letters written by Paul to both the Romans and Galatians outline to the Gentiles and those following Jewish law the error of putting manmade law ahead of God 's plans for his people . The controversy over God 's chosen people can be seen in these letters , as they are aimed at a universal God-fearing group and not only the Jewish community . Since Paul himself had been imprisoned and came to Rome

in chains , his letter to the Romans was indeed laced with an opposition to man 's laws . In Paul 's wish to evangelize Rome and all places that were not accepting of the word of God , he undoubtedly saw the issues that arose from manmade laws that had the capacity to alienate imprison , and even bring sin upon the people that were weak in faith yet otherwise strong in law . His letter to the Galatians was meant for his converts there and addressed issues with the inefficiency of Mosaic law as the opposite of the freedom that could be realized with Christianity . It is fair to say that Paul , as a man punished by law personally did see the laws of man as evil and inviting of sin this is best displayed in his letters to the Romans and the Galatians
