Running Head : COMMUNICATION AND GENDER : Communication and Gender Name University Introduction Communication forms a very important aspect of every human being . It can be defined as a means or process of transmitting information from one place to another place or from one person to another . Communication is broadly classified into two major categories which can be either verbal or non-verbal communication . In verbal communication , there is the use of words to pass your message across and in most cases it is face to face . This is the most mode

because your message is delivered with minimal chances of misunderstanding . The main features of verbal communication are language , words and audibility . These features are necessary since in mass communication for example in TV , information is driven home through language and sound but it is not face to face
Nonverbal communication on the other hand , is the use of gestures facial expressions and even body posture to pass out some certain information . This form of communication relies on cognitive ability to decode correctly the indented meaning . Writing is also a mode of expressing someone 's feelings and thoughts nonverbally which is the mode of choice in learning especially for people in higher institutions of learning . Sometimes in nonverbal communication , there may be misunderstanding of the message passed across due to misinterpretation especially when one is using gestures or facial expression (Sanger et al , 2006
