Journal Assignment 1: Constitutional Democracy

Constitutional Democracy

My name is Steven Martinez . I have been in the US Navy for ten years and am

currently serving in Japan . I am taking this course to meet my goal of earning a

Bachelors degree . I am also interested in expanding my knowledge of our American

government

When I read this journal assignment and thought about how our democracy impacts

my own life - it was easy to identify . I get up every morning and out a uniform on to

ensure the basic elements of our democracy

are protected . I serve with men and women

who have put their lives on the line to ensure that each citizen in America has the right to

Popular Sovereignty . We are the source of the power of the government and we can

exercise that every time we vote and hold our government accountable for its actions and

the results of these actions . I wear this uniform to protect our popular sovereignty

Majority Rule and Minority Rights ' continuously interact with my life as a Navy

Career Counselor . Each time I look across my desk at a person defined as a minority -

that person has the same rights as everyone else under our democracy Each member of

our Armed Services has the same accessibility to training , promotion and recognition as

every other member . Without regard to : race , religion , heritage political views , or color -

we are all equal under our Constitutional Democracy
