Similar to Pirates of the Caribbean , a young man also asks for Johnny Depp 's character 's help to rescue a love interest who turns out to be Sweeney 's daughter . In contrast , Sweeney does little to help the young man rescue his daughter and instead obsesses with exacting vengeance upon the judge . Also unlike in Pirates of the Caribbean , Johnny Depp 's character does not survive and is murdered shortly after fulfilling his mission of killing the judge
