`Their Eyes Were Watching God ' a novel written by an African American writer Zora

Neale Hurston , portrays the story of an African American woman who believes that love

is pivotal for life . There are three stages in her life because she marries three different

men in three unusual circumstances . There was

a film made with the same name and by

Oprah Winfrey but the visual performance of the story much differed from the literary

presentation . Love was treated in the novel as vitally important for life and the central

character , Janie is seen taking the journey of life in search of love Here love is related to

emotions and understanding and is not just physical but spiritual too But in the movie

Janie is shown as a woman who is supernaturally sexy and gets guided in life by her

sexual awakenings . Thus the movie cannot be treated as a literary tribute but it is

manipulated to attract today 's audience
