Integrity is defined as a firm adherence to a code of especially moral or artistic values (Merriam Webster 's Online Dictionary . It is the act of having one 's actions solidly rooted in an internally consistent structure of principles . How deep these principles are and to what extent one adheres to them determine how much integrity a person has , if at all . If this value system governs everything one does and believes the person is said to have integrity . It is not necessary that these values remain the same over time

, they are subject to change , but for a person to qualify as having integrity , the values should be consistent with each other and with the actions of the person

To lead a successful and content life , integrity is an essential quality which one must possess . If one has this , he or she will ensure that his every action and every thought is honest and truthful . He will not take the unethical way out , a shorter cut to get where he wants to go because he will find strength and a guiding light in his internal framework of principles , which will maintain his commitment to becoming a faces

Similar to confidence , bravery , intelligence , integrity is also a value which determines and shapes your character and personality . Integrity in some ways is more important than other values because it enhances these other values while determining your caliber and ties to other values which you possess , ensuring that you live a life consistent with your principles . Hence it can be said that integrity is the very basis of character because a person with integrity will in most probability have the best character in every area of their life , whether it is their personal or professional life . It is not difficult to achieve this but before one can aim to be completely honest with others one must realize that the first step is to be completely honest with his own self . Even if one is without fear of being watched or judged , they should do the right thing

Another important point to realize about integrity is that it is not apparel which one wears and takes off whenever the situation demands it or whenever it suits the person . A lot of times it becomes evident that integrity is perceived in this way . For example , at the workplace convenience and moods often determine whether people act with integrity or not regarding their work as well as interpersonal relationships . They might believe that they are always acting with integrity but when their daily behaviors are analyzed , a lot of evidence to the contrary can be found . For example , lying to the boss , coming in late for work and leaving early , performing work duties without a whole-hearted commitment and responsibility to them are examples of very routine behaviors in the work environment .
