The tremendous advancement of technology , new inventions that would benefit future generations to come and the discovery of new and exciting advancements in science and industry helped spawn the current lifestyle that we enjoy today . The Industrial Revolution began in Great Britain during the late eighteenth century . It refers to a change form hand and home production to machine and factory . The first industrial revolution was important for the inventions of spinning and weaving machines operated by water power which was eventually replaced by steam . This helped America 's growth . However the second industrial revolution truly changed American society and economy into a modern urban industrial state . What drove the United States into the second Industrial Revolution was the passage of the Embargo Act of 1807 and the War of 1812

The act was suspended , but the Embargo Act was a bolder statement of the same idea . On March 1 , 1809 , the Embargo Act was superseded by the Non-intercourse Act . This allowed the resumption of all commercial trade except with Britain and France
