of cooperation between the Sudanese government and members of these unions The militias ' act is based on protecting the wealthy region from being exploited by other communities who will eventually benefit from the wealthy resources . The region 's ownership is largely disputed between the northern and southern Sudan . The Sudanese government is accused of funding the militias with weapons and finances which are used to commit atrocities against the Sudanese nationals . The international community accuses the foreign investors to Sudan on providing the Sudanese government with enough revenue to continue funding the atrocities committed in the Darfur region . The war comprises of two sides on one side the insurgent rebel groups arm themselves and on the other the government army and the local militia (Nick 2006 , p626 . The fighting between these two entities has resulted to a humanitarian crisis in the region rendering millions homeless
