Roy further increased the interest of the readers through bringing them to the childhood years of the twins Through the scenarios that Roy presented within the plot of the story it could be noted that she insisted on showing the readers how political and social norms of the country primarily affected the personal lives of the characters

Through the experiences of the major characters , the opinion of Roy with the existing social systems in India had been made certain and effective in terms of application in the said society .
