Paper Topic:

Impact of a Joint Admissions agreement on south Texas community college students transfer to and and completion of an Engineering Degree from a four year comprehensive university

AN ANALYSIS OF SOUTH TEXAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS

PARTICIPATION IN A JOINT ADMISSIONS AGREEMENT

The Implication of the Joint Admission Agreement in South Texas and Other States

Introduction

What the Joint Admission Agreement introduced in South Texas Community Colleges indicates is there is a need to introduce such model programs across the nation in to alleviate the existing shortage of engineering graduates . Such programs also boost the number of students who would choose in the future to join two-year community colleges to do their preparatory studies for the final two

years at four-year colleges that will lead to an engineering degree . The 300 students transferred to the final two years engineering degree program at four-year colleges through the Joint Admission Agreement in 1997 had taken a good advantage of the opportunity the program availed and were able to graduate in a high number , by obtaining higher grades , and by making their major math for the most part

That was possible simply because of the available incentives that included scholarships that enabled the student to focus on their studies instead of worrying about money . Yet , it does not mean that is the sole solution simply because the outstanding outcome shown through the programs had declined in the following years revealing that there should be more to it than simply coming up with a Joint Admissions Program This will discuss why it had been difficult for other similar establishments to come up with similar programs , although there had been other effective programs discussed here . In addition , the difficulties all involved in the process are encountering is also part of the discussion

The overall assumption is the whole education system , starting from high schools , community colleges , and four-year colleges needs overhauling if the system that is in place is expected to meet the need that urgently requires boosting the number of students that will leave the education system with engineering degree . This will discuss what the shortcomings are and what is being done about this urgent national problem not only in South Texas , but nationwide to alleviate the shortage of students who are completing their education in fields such as engineering and science

Analysis

There had been a recognition in the U .S . from a while back that there was a decline in the number of students aspiring to become scientists and engineers , in spite of the fact that jobs that require science and engineering education had been increasing . If this trend is not dealt with promptly the outcome would be that the number of jobs that will require engineers and scientists will rise , while the number of Americans pursuing these fields will remain , more or less , the same or it could decline . Similarly , the number of people from around the world who would want to come to the U .S . and take those jobs would decline because of either the security complication of entering the U .S . or there would be competing demand for individuals with the particular qualifications...
