therefore developed economically since it had greater control over major land and sea trade routes . It controlled the routes in the Red Sea , Mediterranean Sea , Black Sea , Azov Sea and many others (Karpat 15 ) and also controlled the land trade routes between Asia and Europe (Karpat 111 . Through much conquest the state got sufficient resources through revenues to develop its military facilities further and thus continued with the expansion of territories . To add to that , the military were satisfied since they were being paid in time and this motivated them to put more effort in performing their duties
Another factor that contributed to the success of the Ottoman Empire was the formation of alliances . The Empire formed a strong alliance with countries such as France thereby strengthening its economy and the military force (Imber 53 . Through this alliance the Empire was able conquer Nice which was a Roman Empire territory . Additionally , the Empire defeated Russia through formation of alliances .
