INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS : NORTH-SOUTH DIVIDE
LDCs . One negative effect is the exposure of local infant industries to competition from superior products made from developed countries . The developed countries have higher levels of technology which makes the industries to produce better quality goods more efficiently . These goods compete with those from LDCs , which are produced at lesser efficiency levels and are of lower quality . The goods from developed countries therefore become very popular with consumers from LDCs due to the same reasons . This makes local industries unable to grow and develop due to these pressures Another

problem which is caused by free trade and is attributable to globalization is dumping of goods . LDCs are favorite dumping grounds for lower quality goods and imitations , mostly from countries in Asia These goods are quite cheap but are of lower quality , and may sometimes be harmful to consumers . Globalization has also made LDCs more prone to manipulation by OECD countries . Globalization , as earlier said , has made it possible to influence events which affect the other parts of the world , since the world is interconnected . OECD countries therefore use free trade to pressure LDCs to adopt to their policies , which may not be beneficial to LDCs , and which mostly serve the interests of the OECD countries . This creates a situation where LDCs rely on OECD countries for funding , and it becomes a hindrance to development in these countries
According to Sampson (2005 , LDCs can reduce the unfavorable impacts of globalization by reasonably little interference of the government in the market forces . This will ensure that the government only interferes with the market forces when it sees unfavorable tendencies which hurt the economy . It should not fully regulate the market , since competition of local industries with foreign ones helps the industries to increase efficiency and produce better quality products . In terms...
