Romantic hero These Romantic hero epitomized the rebellious , non-conformist and non-conventional spirit and thought of the romantic era . The idealization of rebellious tendencies , love for strange things and exaltations produced Dr . Faustus in Marlowe 's play , Satan in Paradise Lost of Milton and Napoleon in France . Romantic hero was an egotistic superior , commanding and larger than life character , possessing strong determination and persona who could rebel against the established norms and laws of society Dr . Faustus is considered a chief literary character with true attributes of a romantic hero . He

had the ability to manipulate the situation in his favor by utilizing the great strength of knowledge as compared with strength and power of conventional hero . His greater mental power and knowledge led him to believe that `mind is its own place , and in itself / Can make a Heav 'n of Hell , a Hell of Heav 'n (Milton ) His chief objective remains experimentation with the ideals rather than conventionalities . Milton 's Satan in Paradise Lost is another romantic character who , like Dr . Faustus , suffers due to his individualistic way of thinking and acting . He is disinclined to surrender his egotism and freedom according to the established norms and wills of others
Napoleon is another prime historical example of romantic hero from the contemporary romantic era . He emerged from a humble origin i .e . a Corsican peasant who becomes the chief of army and later the king . It was his extraordinary commanding abilities who helped him achieve at this position . Like the true qualities of romantic hero he was devoted to the revolutionary cause of liberty , fraternity , and equality . His excellent knowledge in military affairs again comes to rescue him in his Russian and European campaigns
