The Sex Organs

A female has three small openings in the pelvic area between her legs The opening in front is for urination while the opening in back is for defecation . The middle opening is called the vaginal opening . This opening leads to a girls reproductive organs . Within a girls vagina there is a piece of skin called the hymen that partially covers the opening . This piece of skin can break the first time a girl has sex Since the hymen is not quite large enough to cover her vaginal opening blood often escapes during the girl 's period

The vulva is comprised of the vaginal opening , the labia and the clitoris . The clitoris is a small area at the front of the exterior sex organs . The labia are the outer lips of girl 's sex organs

The inside sex organs of a girl contain two ovaries . Within the ovaries there are several hundred cells called eggs . These eggs are microscopically small . When the girl reaches puberty her ovaries begin to release the eggs one at a time . This process , usually occurring once per month , is called ovulation

The exterior sex organs of a boy are called the penis and the testicles The penis consists of the shaft the glans (tip , and the foreskin . Some boys undergo circumcision , which is the removal of the foreskin
