Human Resources
Human Resources 2006 Human Resources 1 . Why is it important to use multiple methods and measurements in a research design Multiple methods in research design enable the researcher to address the question from various perspectives . If the researcher uses only one method in the design , he cannot be completely sure in the validity of the results . However , the results obtained with the help of a large variety of methods are much more reliable . It is important to use both primary and secondary methods in research . Primary methods provide the

researcher with the information which has not been influenced by other researchers . Secondary methods provide the researcher with information which is more subjective because it bears the opinion of the author However , secondary information is oftentimes much easier to obtain Besides , costs of gathering primary information are sometimes outrageous
2 . What are the strengths of the survey as a method of research
Survey is a very efficient method of research . It enables the researcher to gather information about the opinions of a large number of people on the same issue . Questions in survey are the same for every respondent Therefore , it is very easy for the researcher to check the hypothesis by asking the same questions to a large number of people . The questions are usually straightforward and for the most part closed . Results of survey are relatively easy to interpret . The process of interpretation does not take much time . Major issues dealing with interpretation are usually addressed before the survey starts
3 . Can an external consultant effectively supplement the work of the organization ? If not , why ? If so , how ? and Why are they effective
External consultants can very efficiently supplement the work of the organization . Organizations can carry out a large number of projects Sometimes it is very difficult to find a current employee of the organization who has experience of working on a certain issue . However some external candidates can have large experience of work on the subject . The company might not need to employ a new full-time employee because that would cause lots of additional expenses , but it would like to use the services of the external candidate . In such a case , the option of hiring him as a consultant is the best both for the company and for the candidate . Consultants are very effective because they are very knowledgeable in the particular area for which they are being hired . In most cases , consultants are people with extensive experience in some kind of operations , or in work with a particular country . The company can take advantage of their knowledge in the particular field without making a long-term commitment to them by hiring them full-time
