Human Relations in a Diverse Society
p Human Relations in a Diverse Society 1 . Diverse cultural environment requires new communication and interaction models as a part of cultural diversity policies . For instance , Queensland Police Service stipulates rules and duties of police officers aimed to protect the rights of racial and ethic minorities and avoid discrimination . This is a good example of qualities related to professionalism and peacekeeping strategies . The following guidelines are obligatory for all police officers : honesty in everything police do the effective use of all resources equal treatment of all suspenders and victims , sensitivity and

tolerance , `equitable and culturally appropriate services , appropriate use of alternative action to arrest (Queensland Police Service 2006 . Advantages of convergence are that ideas and techniques developed in one cultural or national setting may be transferred to another and used effectively
2 . As a result to this , police officers grew more competent than the past police staffs . In fact , the division of their priorities brought about by the influence of the social changes has directly affected the attitudes of the police towards their duty (Bonello , Schafer , 2002 . The image of modern policeman has changed towards culturally competent person able to respond to cultural differences of offenders and apply cultural knowledge into practice . Belief in the transferability of techniques has led management to turn elsewhere for solutions to problems . The key issues in modern policing include increasing individual awareness of and sensitivity to differences of race , gender social class , sexual orientation , physical ability , and age . Police officers play culturally sensitive techniques and methods of interaction such as secure custody , open and visible communication , alternative action to arrest , etc
