Human Motivation Abstract Military service members are prone to stress and health problems especially when they experience hardiness in trainings and combat . The effects of pressure have different outcomes on military members depending on how they turn the stressful situations into chances for growth , instead of dwelling on its negative consequences and adversities . Military combats create trauma and emotional and psychological disturbance . However , if military members would learn to focus on the relevance of the experience as an opportunity to improve their leadership qualities , performance , attitude , and overall growth

Stress and health in the military : Relation to human motivation
There are two types of stress associated with military constituents in the course of providing their services . One is acute stress , which varies depending on different variables such as time and external environment . The other type , chronic stress , is characterized by long-term adversities (Selye , 1976 . Stress affects the endocrine and sympathetic nervous system by triggering their function into a much higher level . Stress also results in memory impairment and damage to the mental faculty . Poor health works almost the same way , bringing about mental , emotional , and physical exhaustion (Westman , 1990
According to a study conducted at Illinois Bell Telephone or IBT regarding the effects of hard experiences on military members and personnel , 75 per cent of the military subjects who were involved in the research suffered health problems half a decade after the upheaval There were other predicaments such as those concerning their performance in work , development of a violent attitude , and family separation . They likewise endured ill health and chronic diss . On the other hand 25 per cent of the sample population exhibited not only a pattern of surviving the experience , but had shown thriving and determination to surpass the stressful circumstances . The differences of results shown between the two parties was said to be due to the orientation of the toughness and power of endurance . These military members were proved to trust themselves and believe that whatever the situation is , they would be able to overcome the obstacles by staying with people and being updated with the current events instead of isolating themselves .
