Introduction

Inquiries about the origin of human species are not new . Even during the earliest periods of human existence , mankind has already been baffled by this issue . At that time , the people resorted to myths and tales to explain the origin of human existence and to cope with their

daily life (Jostein Gaarder 18 ) As early as 580 BC , the Greeks have been asking the same questions albeit from a philosophical point of view (Jostein Gaarder 24 ) Back then , the Greeks did not have the scientific knowledge to come up with plausible explanations . The tools they used to answer these questions consisted merely of their ability to reason and to critically analyze the complex world . The Greeks however , made a significant contribution in the sense that they departed from myths and tales in explaining the realities of life . But now , we have come a long way since the Greek philosophers . Modern science has reached the point where it has helped us answer some of the more intricate riddles of nature . Among these questions is the origin of the human race

The study of the origin of human race and the issue of human evolution are important points of discussion in the study of Anthropology . As they say , as a people and as a race , we will never know where we are going if we do not have an idea of where we are now and what our past is (Joan C . Stevenson 4 ) The human race needs to known its past for it to be able to understand what its purpose is and which direction it is heading . Also , as individuals , our goals , attitudes , motivations and actions are based on our understanding of whom we are . But , we will never know who we are as a person without knowing what our past is and where we came from . Understanding therefore our origin is like a compass that can help serve as our lighthouse and compass that can give us a sense of direction
