Pros and Cons of Genetic Engineering 2007 Genetic engineering has quite a long history and its roots go deep in those times , when humanity started experimenting on breeding the plants and animals , selecting the best and the fittest members of the species It used to be considered as something very natural and undoubtedly useful for humanity . But currently , genetic engineering found itself among the most controversial and debatable public issues The main advantage of genetic engineering is the opportunity to make improvements of the existing biological qualities . Genetic engineering can

significantly impact agriculture and food industry , allowing humanity to modify necessary characteristics and receive the species with better shape , taste , nutrition qualities , etc . As a result , it can increase efficiency and productivity , at that lowering the costs of production and management
Also , genetic engineering will cause breakthroughs in medicine . Soon it will be possible to receive a replica of any human organ by genetic cloning , so operations on replacing any faulty organ will become a usual procedure . Perhaps , genetic experiments will give us a chance to create special pills for every particular genetic combination of an individual so everyone will be able to receive a custom medication for any illness .But , at the same time , there are some negative outcomes . It is supposed to be unnatural and dangerous to modify genetic characteristics of biological organisms , and especially human beings . Ethical matters are the essence of this controversy , because people can not play the role of God and change genetic codes and patterns of different organisms because it may result in Undoubtedly , genetic engineering is a very promising and valuable modern scientific direction , and very soon new achievements in genetics will result in significant developments in medicine , food industry , biology agriculture , etc . However , it is necessary to find out a way to keep the researches of specialists in genetics under proper permanent control and make their achievements serve only for the benefit of humanity

- 8. One of the concerns mentioned in the chapter regarding the use of genetic technology centers around privacy issues such as `genetic discrimination.` Once we improve our ability to screen the human genome for disease susceptibility, is there any level o
