Abstract

Number of Hong Kong women managers is steadily increasing due to their can-do attitude and high education . Another factor that seems to contribute in their success is the passage of legislations against sex discrimination at workplace . Despite these laws , the traditional Chinese culture in which men are considered

as bread-winning and women are responsible for housework are still prominent . Women are facing discriminatory behaviors and sexual harassment at their workplace but they prefer not to confront their superiors because of the traditional Chinese culture in which importance is given to men . Due to high work-family stress , women prefer to remain single and even if they are married then they do not want to have children because they have to work very hard to keep balance in family and at work . They try to get support from the extended family members . They usually work on men set terms and conditions . The researcher argues that government and society should support working women , childcare should be provided by the state and organizations should implement family and women friendly policies
