Homer's the Odyssey
Odysseus met former king of Mycenae in Hades , Greek realm of shadows . He learned from him about the treachery of women , about infatuation and human weakness under the will of gods . Why he told it to him ? To warn him against female infidelity ? To tell about own tragedy and to ask about Orestes ' fate Odyssey learnt that Agamemnon was killed not on the battlefield not in the shipwreck . His vicious wife and her lover killed him ( as the ox is slaughter 'd at his crib , he slaughter 'd me . Agamemnon told about

female deceitfulness and mendacity . He told about his lofty love to Cassandra and Clytemnestra 's felonious passion to Aegisthus . Homer (and Agamemnon ) told nothing about motives of this murder : the sacrifice of daugther , Iphigenia , and the appearance of young concubine (Cassandra cannot make usual woman to be indifferent . Especially if this woman found a good substitute of her old and selfish husband . Agamemnon has met his match not in Aegisthus , but in Clytemnestra . Dead Agamemnon does not feel any guilt . He (or his shadow ) is exasperated with wife 's behavior . He thinks that her crime is the shame on herself , on women yet unborn / And even on the virtuous of her sex ' OK , Agamemnon , the king and warrior had no luck with women . But probably did he have more wisdom ? No evidence , he just adviced to Odysseus some helpful things For example , do not trust women . Agamemnon asked about the fate of his son , Orestes , and wish his son will tale revenge for him but he had not get the answer from Odysseus . Probably the last one concentrated on the idea what his Penelopa prepared to him
I calculated that name of Agamemnon appears in Odyssey 20 times - only in six folds less than name of Odysseus . About him (I mean Agamemnon Homer remind us many times . Why our attention should be focused on this tragic figure ? May be because Agamemnon 's life and death were the way of man of great ambitions and poor moral ? Agamemnon offended Achilles and it 's make Greek troops be weaker . He did not think about his family , he thought about the glory and pride . Odysseus ' dream is to reunite with his lovely family . He came to Hades to ask how to achieve his cherished aim . He found Agamemnon , he listened to his story , but he still trusted his wife . Because of true love wins everything . Amor omnia vincit
