Homeland Security CIA CIA or the Central Intelligence Agency is an independent agency owned by the USA government that is used in various security operations in the nation . It is a civilian intelligence agency with a primary function of collecting and analyzing information on foreign governments corporation , or any other persons to process information which is used by the policy makers on matter of foreign policies . It is mainly used to gather intelligence information The jurisdiction of the agency is therefore left on the foreign matters It primarily gathers information

from the foreign countries in to advice the government accordingly on the foreign matters . It has less involvement with homeland security although there have been calls to extend the function of the CIA to homeland security
The mission of the agency is to be the nation 's first line of defense In doing so the agency is to accomplish what others have failed to accomplish and reach where others have not reached to guarantee the nation its security . In to accomplish this mission , the Agency collects information which reveals the plans , intentions , and capabilities of the adversaries and provides it for the bases of decision making . It also achieves this by producing timely analysis which gives insight , warning and opportunity to the executive and other decision makers given the mandate of protecting Americans interest . It will also achieve this by conducting overt action at the direction of the president in to prevent threat and achieve US policy objective
Role in homeland defense
The CIA has not been very well utilized in homeland defense . Its operation has been concentrated around the external operations and its involvement in homeland defense has remained a long standing argument There are other sources that are supporting the integration of the operation of the agency in the homeland defense operations
Under the current threat posed by terrorist , there have been calls to integrate the operations of the CIA in the homeland defense in to help it to play a radical role in counter toreros operations . The CIA has been working closely with other homeland defense agencies like the FBI and in to oversee homeland defense . Therefore it has increasingly been playing a crucial role in homeland defense as well
