The American Revolution refers to the era in which the thirteen colonies gained independence from the British Empire . It was during the last half of the 18th century , with America after independence becoming the United States of America . The colonies entered into an armed conflict , Revolutionary war ' after uniting against the British Empire . John Adams

was the second president of the United States formed the North pole . He first contributed to revolution in this state before becoming the president and represented the colony of Massachusetts at the First Continental Congress in 1774 as well as participating in framing the Massachusetts State constitution In addition , he negotiated for a peace treaty and formed a commercial treaty with Great Britain ,and further cooperated with Jay , Franklin and Laurens in Treaty of Peace development with Great Britain . The treaty was very instrumental in ending the American Revolution later in the US . He succeeded president George Washington , after serving as a Vice president for eight years . During his term in office , he built up the American Navy to protect the U .S . ships at sea as a result of the French Revolution which had led to the attack of American ships at sea by the French Army . John Adams founded the Department of the Navy and the U .S .S . constitution . John Adam initiated a bitter struggle between the governor Thomas Hutchinson and anti-British party in the Massachusetts legislature so that the state would become independent together with the other US states . In addition , he was important in encouraging religious and Social reforms in the north
