History
History The recent history of humans has produced outstanding inventions that have changed the course of this history . The list of such inventions is in fact endless , and to identify each idea or product that has substantial impact would a long and tedious task . It is indeed true that humans are capable of coming up with inventions that would definitely change the world , be it positive or negative . This has been proven since time immemorial , and the recent centuries have seen a rapid increase of such inventions , as scholars would attest to

(Watson , 2006 Numerous ideas of people would have an impact on the society as a whole , although how massive this impact is would vary largely . In addition , the course of development that these inventions would lead to would not necessarily be positive , as it would still ultimately depend on how these innovations would be utilized by those who possess the technology
The technologies that I chose are by no means the only ones that are important , but these inventions have contributed immensely to human development . The following are (1 ) Bessemer steel furnace (2 telephone (3 ) atomic bomb (4 ) RADAR , and (5 ) micro chip . These inventions are truly landmarks in the advancements of society , and each has had vast contributions to the past and future technological progress . Each have there own merits and utility , and can provide countless benefits , as well as challenges
A . Bessemer Steel Furnace (1855
The Bessemer Steel Furnace is the technology that ushered in the age of steel , as it allowed the easier manipulation and processing of the material . Although the actual process was being used years before its invention , it was only because of the invention of the actual device that steel was produced in an industrial level . The furnace operates on the principle of oxidation , which purifies the iron content in the device (Tracy , 2005 ) It was able to produce high quality steel in large amounts , which was then used for various purposes . The wide availability of steel benefited the society , and it led to the utilization of steel in manufacturing industries , even to the household level . Steel is a very important material , therefore , the invention of the Bessemer steel furnace marked an important point in history , as it became more available and cheaper
The name of the furnace was derived from its credited inventor , Henry Bessemer , who obtained patent for the process in 1855 , although some would claim that it was William Kelly who actually discovered it in 1951 (Tracy , 2005 ) It was because of the invention that mass production became possible , and it truly moved forward the steel-making industry Eventually , the technology was replaced by another process , the Linz-Donawitz process , which improved on the steel production system (Tracy , 2005 ) The Bessemer process fails to completely purify steel that there are still other chemicals that are unfiltered . Although the Bessemer steel furnace was ultimately developed , as it had some shortcomings , it has essentially started the steel movement , which was one of the...
