a ) The period of Second World War was characterized by an economic boom that had been unpredicted as before the United States was still reeling from the devastating impacts of the Great Depression . While most of the nations across Europe were deeply in debt and debilitated by the war the United States emerged strengthened both in the political arena and economically . Economic historians say that it became more stable towards the end of the war more than it had been

during its entry , or during the commencing of the war . This can mostly be explained alongside the demand for industrial products and the intense industrialization that took place . The war had favored the Americans by creating a large demand for weapons , vehicles and communication equipments

Afterwards there would arise increased demand for consumer goods to a scale not witnessed before . Electronics such as televisions and others that had been a preserve of the military were up for grabs to the civilians . The Great Depression having subsided , there was increased interaction of economic players the government and the private sector were functioning in synergy . A new workforce had been introduced . Women had stepped in to take the place of their female counterparts who were busy in the war . This did not change after the war keeping the industries on their toes with a constant supply of labor . These are some of the factors that constituted solid bedrock against which the economy of the United States was founded

b ) The cold war was a war of words between the west and the U .S .S .R . It arose due to the inherent ideological differences that existed between the two blocs . The key enemy for the U .S .S .R was the United States . The two nations were afraid of engaging in direct confrontation so they fought by waging proxy wars . Both the western nations and the Soviet Union were allies aiding each other out during the Second World War Then they had a common enemy fascist leadership in Germany . The United States and the other western nations were alarmed by the rapid spread of communist influence across Europe especially as the war came to an end Communist parties were springing up and if this was not checked , they would command a large following . An Iron Curtain , as Winston Churchill put it , was separating the communist regime from the western democracies . This is what would trigger an ideological war that would be characterized by arms race and stiff competition in the various fields including technology (Young John W , 1991
