April 6th 1917 , is a historic day in the US history which changed everything within and beyond the United States for the American people The Unites States never

remained the same after it . This will discuss the events which drew the United States closer to the war despite all her efforts to remain isolated during these events . It will also discuss the way the United States mobilized its military force in Europe . The impacts of war on the country 's economy as well as on politics of the country

Events that drew the U .S closer to war

During the first three years of the World War One the United States maintained the strategy of isolation and indifference to the developments on the European landmass . But during these years a series of events occurred which compelled the American leadership to reconsider their strategy . The relations between the United States and Germany became tensed when a German U-boat destroyed a British passenger liner Lusitania ' with 128 Americans aboard . The bilateral ties were further deteriorated when Germany announced to resume unrestricted submarine warfare against the American wished and U .S President Wilson 's warnings But the most compelling development was the disclosure of a German proposal to Mexico to join her as an ally against the United States This forced president Wilson and the Congress to seriously reconsider their strategies and policies . Germans emboldened by U .S war indifferent policies start attacking U .S merchant ships and sank three of them . This was enough now , thus President Wilson requested the Congress to declare war against the Germany . The Congress approved this request and declared war against Germany on 6th April , 1917

How did the U .S mobilize for War

When the United States entered the WWI there were only 200 ,000 troops serving in the U .S army . This number was unable to make tangible impact on the war . But this issue was addressed very quickly by President Wilson 's government and a draft was imposed to fulfill the requirements The United States increased the size of its navy in secure the ships transporting troops and other important war machinery to Europe This rapid mobilization of troops enabled the United States to supply nearly 10 ,000 troops to Europe per day . This fast mobilization was never expected by her German opponents . The Americans were able to transport more than 2 million troops to France only . This was because the federal government increased her spending in this sector from 477 million in 1916 to 8 ,450 million in 1918 . The government also took control of all the important sectors...
