Definition of Homeschooling

Home Schooling can be referred to as the educating the children at home by the parent as a teacher , rather than sending them to school (Educational Encylopedia , State University .com , 2007 ) There are some generalizations made regarding homeschooling . According to Educational Encyclopedia (2007 , since the instructor of the children is the parents , the one responsible for the homeschooling is usually not working

According to Tim Lambert , the president of the Texas Home Coalition there is already an increasing number of children being home schooled per year . It is estimated to be at 15 percent per year in the United States . Homeschooled children to-date is hard to estimate according to Lambert . This is so because there is an irregular documentation of the population . From a report of the U .S . Department of Education in 1999 it can be estimated that there are over 850 ,000 children who are home-schooled

Examinations are used by the government to measure the achievement scores and capabilities of the Home Schooled Children . A research of Lawrence Rudner showed several findings regarding the demographics and achievement levels of the Home-schooled children . This research had used a survey for the demographics and the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills and Tests of Achievement and Proficiency to conclude on the scores of the home-schooled children , the public schooled children and the private-schooled . However , the research cannot be used as an ultimate tool to compare and give concrete conclusions about the population of home-schooled children . However , since there is still no available data that had studied the population and since the research is one of the initial studies made for home-schooled children , it can be use as an initial assessment of the home-schooled population . Based on the results , scores of the home-schooled children are relatively high median score of the population shows that the scores are in the 70th and 80th percentile . One fourth of the population of home-schooled children are enrolled one or more grade in advance as compared to the public and private schooled children .
