Clients name Course The Roaring Twenties The 1920 's in the United States became exemplified by F . Scott Fitzgerald 's The Great Gatsby . It was a story of indulgence , frivolity and irresponsibility , but a wonderful and captivating story theless It was only towards the end of the 1920 's that the Great Depression put a startling and morbid end to the `spend , spend , spend ' idea but it became known as an era of growth in terms of invention , political climate and economics . The identity and importance of women as a social

br class on their own changed dramatically and with inventions such as automobiles , film and advertising , the nature of individual life also changed
Also known as the `Jazz Age , the 1920 's were an era when America had become an economic powerhouse (Cheek , 2005 . Yet it was not only a time for growth in all areas of society because it saw the uprising of secular social issues such as racism and the Ku Klux Klan (Cheek , 2005 There was also what Jerrie Cheek explains was a bipolar society , rabid faith and extreme cynicism as well as polarity in hope and despair (Cheek , 2005 . This happens at times when society is changing too fast for the individuals within it to assimilate the change . The Roaring Twenties were indeed seen as a period of overindulgence and films today portray the time as one of pure frivolity , but negates the difficulties that were seen in terms of migration and cultural intolerance
The intolerance of black people in the South along with a continuing violence towards black people led essentially to a demographic shift of black migrants to the North (Schultz , Lecture 09 , 1999 . The migration though in seek of better tolerance in fact challenged even the Northern idealism surrounding what the place of the black person was in the new United States (Schultz , Lecture 09 , 1999 . Sadly , in a time when great change was occurring some of the population were left behind and those people would invariably be the previously enslaved black population However , it was not only the intolerance that caused them to migrate but also the large number of job openings in unskilled factory positions in the northern urban areas (Schultz , Lecture 09 , 1999
The dawning of women 's rights came with the right to vote in 1919 but quieted down shortly...
