There have been lots of comparisons between nurses and physicians . In the past and even in a number of cases presently nurses and physicians work together in collaboration such that they provide quality services needed by the patients . This is however changing as nurses take on a more active role in providing primary healthcare . The trend can be encouraged considering the increasing demand of healthcare and the costs coming as a result . The population requires much more services in

the primary healthcare thus the need to utilize any available resources to ensure that their demands are sufficiently met (Light , 1988 . The nurses , majority who have spent quite sometime with the doctors are well equipped to treat most of the common ailments . These include sore throat , abdominal pains and in some cases help patients deal effectively with diseases such as diabetes and asthma (Freudenheim , 1997 . These nurses are able to diagnose almost all ailments and only refer a few complicated ones to the specialists . The trend has been encouraged in some quarters considering the fact that nurses are more close to the patients , take care of their needs and are able to respond to specific concerns raised by the patients . However , the good news can only get this far .
