The natural hazard management helps to understand the mitigation measures to other natural management systems . Hazards can occur and catch people unaware but if they had measures in position to counter the effects , it will be possible to help the affected than if there were no measures of countering the hazards . Gatlinburg TN is an attraction site for both residents and non-residents of this area . The town is located at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains national park . Some of the attraction that make Gatlinburg a unique town include , Ober Gatlinburg : a 120 passenger train that takes passenger round the park and Ski resort , Ripley 's Gatlinburg Aquarium : a moving walkway that carries people through a clear tunnel the great smoky mountains National park : the park has so many attractions including hiking trails , wild animals etc

Some of this attraction to the Gatlinburg city coupled with other natural factors contributes highly to a number of hazards in the region

Fire hazards

The Gatlinburg Park attracts many people for vocational tour in the area . Because of the increased number of visitors , the community has experienced dramatic increase in the number of retirement and vocational homes being constructed . But despite the positive contributions that they make to the city , in terms of revenue collected , there are also some negative effects associated with the visitors . Fire cases are a common problem experienced in the Gatlinburg city and its environs According to the report by the Tennessee community (2006 , 2 ,739 wild fires burned 68 ,141 and destroyed 67 residents across Tennessee in the year 2001 . the Ridgecrest fire burned 1500 acres and resulted in loss of five homes in the community . Most of these fires have been occurring due to heavy tree mortality steep slopes and increasing development (Tennessee community , 2006

Some of the other causes of fire in the area have been highly associated with campfires . Because of the concerns about wild fires , the community has taken up measures that could see the reduction of the fire hazards . The community members have also been involved in identifying the probable causes of fire and how to take control measures . The community together with the department of Agriculture , division of Forestry has come up with policies that encourage local community members to participate voluntarily in mitigating the action plans to control fires

There have also been some strict measures that have been passed to control the issue of firebreaks in the area . For instances , during dry seasons , the park does not allow backcountry campfires . According to the News Sentinel Staff that was released on October 19 , 2007 , it said , a ban on campfire in the backcountry of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was imposed today .
