Nathaniel Hawthorne 's short story "My Kinsman , Major Molineux " a young country lad , whose name is revealed to be Robin , goes through some misadventures as he looks for his kinsman , Major Molineux . The young man 's physical appearance is described he is wearing old homemade clothes , but he is generally healthy and rather good-looking . He spends most of the story displaying one very distinguishable characteristic napvety . This napvety shows itself , at first , as purely the optimism of a young man embarking on his first adventure all alone and

far away from home . This optimism is expressed from the start of his quest , as he "walked forward into the town , with as light a step , as if his day 's journey had not already exceeded thirty miles , and with as eager an eye as if he were entering London city , instead of the little metropolis of a New England colony (Hawthorne . Later on , from his encounter with the old man that ended with the barbers laughing at him , his encounter with the innkeeper that ended with the people at the tavern laughing at him and his encounter with the "saucy " young lady that ended with the lady and the watchman laughing at him , this optimism then seems to change into what is more likely napvety .
