For the Stoics , humanity is created by the habits of moderation in life . It is , according to them , a destination to which all individuals will never pass . For Nietzsche though , humanity is not a destination , it is a transition . According to him , when men ceased to be animals , they taught themselves to control their instincts for greater gains . Having controlled instincts , humans were able to create civilizations that exceeded the imaginations of men . Now this will to

power is directed inward to self-mastery . This self-mastery is the state in which humans will profoundly in love with life , accepting all that Fate is giving them . This struggle for self-mastery is constantly threatened by what Nietzsche called decadent philosophies (Curtis , 233 . Included are Christianity and modern nihilism On the macro level , the concept of will to power explains the changing aspect of reality . For Nietzsche , there is no such thing as a fixed being . Ideas , matter , knowledge , and other elements of this world are constantly changing over time . The will to power is the essential motor of change because of its ability to move ideas even greater than physical causes . Hence , it is of no doubt that the universe is a physical manifestation of wills . The human soul or ego is nothing but a fictional representation of the will to power a representation that is studded with flaws
