The term reggae ' is more closely associated with the singer Bob Marley from Jamaica . He was able to gain popularity in the United States and the whole world through his slow beat music and dreadlocks . For many , he is the epitome of true blue reggae

of us love . Beneath the glitters and fame of Bob Marley lies the ugly side of the music which finds its roots at the outskirts of Trench town , an impoverished city in Jamaica . The movie showed the crimes and injustice that these musicians have experienced while pushing the music that they deeply adore . Marijuana , dreadlocks and the music itself is often discriminated by those at the higher echelons of society as it connotes poverty , crime and drugs . But ones they see the people behind the music and the society that they live in , there is hope for greater understanding on the music and the people who adore it rather than discrimination and apathy

Some claim that it comes from the Jamaican word streggae which means poorly dressed . Bob Marley on the other hand claims that the term is of Latin origin that means the kings music . Either way , Reggae nowadays is not only music but a way of life

In the movie , the main character was paid only 20 dollars for his first single . Unlike those in Hollywood , he received a rather small amount for a single . This represents artists like Bob Marley who reportedly received the same amount of money for their first single . Perhaps it is the stigma that reggae musicians are from a poor country and are often discriminated against

Furthermore , the movie feature stars getting involved in criminal acts This those not happen solely in Jamaica as shown by artists like Snoop dog and Puff Daddy who was both involved in crimes . Sociological imagination dictates that this is not an isolated case rather it is connected to the entire music industry . Billions of dollars go into the industry annually , thus , there are always vested interest that corrupts the budding artists . Plus the fact that reggae singers carried the stigma of being drug user
