Running head : HIV /AIDS HIV /AIDS Author 's name Author 's affiliation Abstract HIV /AIDS is spreading worldwide . There is no cure for this disease but medicines can slow down the viral activity . It can be transmitted through three major ways : sexual transmission , blood transmission , and perinatal transmission . HIV infection can be controlled by using an essential therapy named as antiviral therapy . Though HIV /AIDS is incurable , it can be controlled by implementing preventive strategies Introduction The Human Immune deficiency Virus (HIV ) epidemic has entered its second

decade , yet a cure for this deadly viral infection is not expected soon Cases of HIV infection are now reported throughout the world . Early in the epidemic , specific at-risk populations were identified , but as the epidemic grew , this risk pool expanded to include new populations
A cluster of cases of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia in young previously healthy homosexuals heralded the beginning of the Acquired Immune deficiency Syndrome (AIDS ) epidemic in 1981 (Centers for Disease Control , 1981 ) In the ensuing months , reports of other rare diss affecting previously healthy individuals in major urban centers of the United States were published . It soon became apparent that rare malignancies such as Kaposi 's sarcoma and unusual opportunistic infections were affecting certain groups in the general population Since homosexuals , bisexuals , intravenous drug users (IVDU ) and hemophiliacs were initially reported as groups at risk for AIDS . Early epidemiologic studies suggested an apparent blood-borne or sexual route of transmission even before the causative agent was discovered
